Home, Sweet Home!

My husband and I finally made it back from our trip to Europe. (We actually ended up staying another night in Paris... I was so grateful for the extra day!!) Below is a picture of the historic Temple Bar in Dublin, and of course, us in front of the Eiffel Tower!

On our many plane rides, I was able to create some fun classroom projects! Many of them apply to my bird-themed classroom, but others can definitely be used by other teachers. First is a sign that says "Are We In a 4S Line?" I made a sign like this last year and taped it to the top of my classroom door. Sometimes, before my kids would leave the classroom, I would go through each "S" on the line and have them nod their heads. (My favorite is "Are we smiling?" because it's just the best to see your kids smile!) For this upcoming year, I decided I would make it a little cuter. I printed out 2 copies this time... One to tape at the top of my door, and one to attach a popsicle stick to and hold up before we leave. Click on the link to download yours! (Graphics by My Cute Graphics.)

I also created a password activity to help the kids with sight word recognition. Many of the Kindergarten teachers at my school had an activity like this outside their doors and I thought it was so clever! So, I created a bird-themed one to match my room. This is how it works...

Print out a board and the sight words you would like to use. Laminate all of the pieces. Attach the board to the outside of your classroom door and tape or Velcro a sight word in the rectangular space. Before your kiddos may leave or enter the classroom, they must tell you the sight word!

I made sight words from the first set of 35 sight words that we use in our district: a, am, and, are, at, can, did, do, for, go, have, here, I, in, is, it, like, look, me, my, no, of, on, said, saw, see, the, to, up, was, we, went, with, yes, you. However, I have also included blank cards if you would like to add  your own words. As I was making this activity, I thought it would also be a good idea to create a similar concept that can be used with any subject area. So, in the document is a "teacher-made" password activity for teachers to write their own questions. (ex: Tell me a word that rhymes with bat.)

THIS IS NOT THE ONLY DESIGN!!! I created 3 other cutesy designs that I will combine in one large document and sell on my TPT. I just wanted to share my bird design with you all. :) Enjoy!

Oh, and literally the day after my husband and I returned home, I went to Lakeshore and laminated 37 feet worth of stuff!! I was so excited! Laminating at Lakeshore is the best because first of all, I LOVE that store, and second of all, they are always playing fun children's songs! Thankfully, my BFF teacher friend Ashley can over and helped me cut it all out. Our lamination-cutting party was not complete without cookies and Grease. :)

Check out my blog later this week for a ten frames freebie... :O

Shapes Write the Room FREEBIE!

Good morning! Because I will not be able to post while I am in Europe, I thought I would share one last freebie! This is a "shapes" write the room. Tape these shapes all over the classroom and have the kiddos find the shapes and write the names on their recording sheet. (Borders by My Cute Graphics)

Who Doesn't Love FREEBIES??!?!?!

Just thought I would share some of my recent creations. :)

These are 8 cards that you can print and use as class goals in your classroom. Choose one goal to work on per day. Clip the card to the whiteboard and remind the students of the goal throughout the day.

During my first year as a K teacher, I found myself searching high and low for morning work. For those days when I cannot find something cute that fits in with our "theme", I have created some morning work that you can use anytime throughout the year! For example, ask your kids to practice writing sight words on the word wall, copy the morning message, write a story, practice number writing, practice writing their names, etc. I am excited to use these next year!!! (Graphics by My Cute Graphics)

Next, we have a fun number-matching center that helps our kiddos with number identification, counting, and ten frames. Just print out the pages, laminate, and cut along the zig-zag/curvy lines.

Finally, I have made a clothespin letter-matching center to help our kids with letter sounds and beginning sounds in words. Print, laminate, and cut these boards in half. On 26 clothespins, write each letter of the alphabet. You can write uppercase letters or lowercase letters for a more challenging center. Students will clip the clothespin to the correct picture/letter.

You can also find these activities on my Teachers Pay Teachers account! ENJOY!!!!

Hi, there!

Hi! My name is Cady Hearn. I just finished up my first year as a teacher in Kindergarten! It was the absolute BEST year a first-year teacher could ask for. :) With the help of many wonderful blogs, I was able to find fabulous ideas to use with my Kinders. These ideas inspired me to create some of my own activities that I, too, wanted to share on TPT. Now that I have actually had time to slow down and catch my breath (y'all know what I mean!), I have been having the BEST time creating things for my future kiddos. I have always admired other teachers' blogs, so I figured it was time to hop on the bandwagon and create my own! I cannot WAIT to share my ideas and experiences with you. (Check back often because I love to post FREEBIES!!!!)

Tomorrow, I am headed to Ireland with my new husband. (It will be our 4-month anniversary tomorrow... We went to Europe for our honeymoon, and we just couldn't wait to go back!) Last time, we explored Rome, Paris, and London. On this trip, we will be traveling to Ireland, and then back to Paris. ("Paris is always a good idea." - Audrey Hepburn) I LOVE PARIS! Anyways, so I will be very busy making things on my laptop during our loooooong flight over there. I will post my creations as soon as we return home next week!

Have a fun and safe Fourth!! :)
